No.8 Super Mirror Polished Stainless Steels

As a mirror-polished stainless steel sheet manufacturer, Stanch offers super mirror stainless steel for customers to choose from. Super Mirror is a high-gloss, polished finish with an exceptional degree of reflectiveness, achieved through 2B and BA finishes. Also known as No.8 or non-directional finish, this is produced by using finer abrasives and finishing with extremely fine buffing compounds. Stanch's mirror polished stainless steel sheet, with its unique Super Mirror surface, is blemish-free and features perfect reflective quality.

We produce super mirrors (stainless steel mirrors) through a chemical wet polish method, which differs from dry polish. The dry polish can only achieve a No.7 finish, which is brighter than BA but still reveals directional lines on the surface. Our chemical wet polishing process delivers a non-directional super mirror finish that is clear and free of any line marks.

Stainless steel Super Mirror is easy to fabricate and more durable compared to glass mirrors. This super mirror stainless steel is extensively used in food preparation areas, ceiling installations, and other high-traffic zones. Due to its uniform consistency and high reflectivity, it is also ideal for panel-to-panel matching, making it suitable for architectural and decorative applications, such as wall panels, coping and trim, and artistic objects. Guide to Stainless Steel Finishes

There are nearly endless applications for stainless steel thanks to its natural corrosion-resistance properties and impressive strength. Although these characteristics remain consistent, the appearance of stainless steel can differ based on the surface finish. Surface finishes are produced through various methods including rolling, polishing, and blasting, and can range from dull to bright tones. Additionally, stainless steel can have a textured surface. Let's review some common types of stainless steel finishes and their typical applications.

No. 2B Finish

This cold-rolled finish creates a bright appearance and is the most commonly used finish for light-gauge stainless steel. It results in a hazy, semi-reflective surface accomplished by a light pass through polished rolls. This is often the initial step for stainless steel that will undergo additional polishing. One drawback is the absence of protective coatings, making the material susceptible to light marks from handling operations.

No. 3 Finish

Stainless steel with a No. 3 finish features a coarse grain running in one direction, created by running a 120-grit abrasive brush over the surface. No. 3 finishes are often applied to stainless steel for architectural and food-processing applications.

Similar to the No. 3 finish but using a more abrasive brush, surface finish No. 4 creates a strong directional grain appearance with a 150-grit brush. The visible grain is so defined that it prevents reflection. Stainless steel with a No. 4 finish is most often found in kitchen equipment.

No. 7 Finish

Stainless steel with a No. 7 finish has a high-luster and reflective surface, but some grit lines remain visible. This appearance is achieved by grinding and buffing the surface. No. 7 finishes are common in architectural components like ornamental trim and wall panels.

No. 8 Finish

Also known as a mirror finish, No. 8 finished stainless steel features a reflective surface achieved by polishing with increasingly finer abrasives and then buffing until all grit lines and defects are removed. No. 8 finishes are primarily used for aesthetic purposes and found in items like mirrors and sculptures.

BA (Bright Annealed) Finish

This cold-rolled finish is applied in a controlled atmosphere to prevent scale buildup during annealing, resulting in a thin oxide layer that enhances corrosion resistance. Stainless steel with a BA finish is often used in surgical equipment and cookware.
