Personalized professional pots are designed to meet the specific needs of chefs and cooking enthusiasts by considering factors such as material, size, shape, and functionality. This customization enhances the cooking experience and ensures optimal results in the kitchen.
I am fascinated by the concept of downsizing and depotting your makeup kit. Whether you are a makeup artist or not, one thing is true—our skincare and makeup products take up a lot of space.
As a personal traveler, it's comical how much we downsize our skincare and makeup bags to avoid checking in a bag or paying for luggage. We go to extreme lengths to condense our products into a tiny quart-sized plastic baggie.

One of my most popular episodes on the podcast is my personal guide to packing makeup for leisure travel!
For makeup artists, sometimes we have to be prepared for anything and everything. Our kits get heavy quickly, and we often work with limited counter space. Therefore, any opportunity to make our kits lighter and more efficient is welcome.
I first learned of Grishan Roof during my interview with multiple Emmy-award-winning makeup artist Melissa Street. When I asked her how she prepares her kit for a film or large production, she told me, "just watch Grishan." And I did!

After seeing Grishan's work, I knew I wanted to invite her on the show and interview her about her meticulous and mesmerizing depotting and kit splitting process. Besides being an accomplished makeup artist, she has also become an accomplished kit curator.
She has downsized some of the most famous makeup artists' kits, including those of Beyonce’s MUA, Sir John, Rihanna’s MUA, Priscilla Ono, Ariana Grande’s MUA, Michael Anthony, and many more. (I plan to ask her about these experiences in the interview!)
Grishan has also had significant collaborations with MYO Cosmetics, a household name in the makeup artist world. I want to ask her what's next. So whether you are a makeup artist, aspiring to be one, or simply curious about downsizing or depotting your makeup kit, you’re in for a real treat.
Depotting your makeup kit involves removing items from their original packaging to make it smaller and lighter. Imagine carrying 50 different foundations in bottles; it takes a toll on our backs. By depotting, we can bring more products in smaller quantities, allowing us to kit-split.
Kit-splitting is dividing a product into two or more portions. For example, you might split it three ways: one for yourself, another to trade or share with another makeup artist, and a third to keep. Essentially, you only bring the amount you might need before the product expires.

I'm a shopaholic, so I love having the latest products, but I'm also lazy and have a bad back. When I discovered depotting and downsizing, I went all in. I started making kits for clients who couldn't do their makeup in my absence, which helped me make money and build my brand. During the pandemic, I filmed the downsizing to show my clients I was still using the same brands, and it took off from there. Fiona Stiles asked how much I charge, posted about it, and suddenly everyone heard about me.
I require clients to do a kit edit before I agree to downsize their kits. This means going through all products to ensure they are clean and not close to expiring. Mixing expired products can contaminate the rest. I organize creams by brand for easier expiration tracking and separate “clean beauty” products from PRO-grade ones due to their differing shelf lives.
Thick foundations like Cle de Peau or Charlotte Tilbury’s Flawless Airbrush Filter are challenging to depot. The trick is finding the right containers for them.
Pro products or luxury products designed by pros, except Pat McGrath, are easier to depot. Her packaging is heavy, so many prefer to depot it.
Skincare products should be left in their original packaging unless they're in brand's travel sizes. Decanting expensive skincare like Sisley or La Mer can ruin its efficacy.

I wish manufacturers would use removable glue dots instead of mixed media that aren't recyclable. Armani does this well. More brands should adopt refillable programs in major cities.
Drugstore products often perform as well as high-end ones once you remove the packaging. Labeling with the brand's logo maintains that luxury feeling.

They focus on technique over product. You'll find OG items like Ben Nye Powders and RCMA concealers in their kits. When I customize their kits, I make it easy for them to maintain, based on their workflow. I even go on set with some to observe how they work.
We developed a companion palette for larger makeup items to maintain sustainability. Another collaboration is with Bags for Makeup—padded, lightweight, and fits MYO palettes perfectly. The website depotchopra.com is launched.
Classes are starting soon in LA and NY with options for other cities as they reopen. Hands-on learning is vital for things like proper posture and pressure application. By embracing these practices, brands will have no choice but to listen.
There is no award for having the most stuff. The goal is to care for yourself so you can continue this work longer and keep your kit clean and organized. Follow your path and do what's best for you.
If you want to capture my attention, you mention "long wear" and you get it; mention Paint Pots, and you'll see my fingertips twitch with excitement ready to swatch!
On Saturday, I saw new paint pots by surprise. I hadn’t been following Mac collections, but I was happy and relieved to see them in time. After swatching, I selected two: Perky and Tailor Grey.
I'm attracted to pink corals and taupes, especially when combined in the same look. I initially used Perky on the eyelid and Tailor Grey in the outer crease and lower lashline.
TF She Wolf is darker and glamorous, yet wearable. Mac Tailor Grey isn't a dupe for Ellis Faas 107 I love, but it will be useful.
Ellis Faas products have the best texture and wearable colors. Unfortunately, their packaging is frustrating. I've depot Ellis Faas into a small pot, but it might dry out.
Mac Tailor Grey is warmer than Maybelline but not like Ellis Faas. It's between Ellis Faas 105 and 107—107 being my favorite for a subtle smokey eye.
I use EL Mochachino on the lid, blended to the crease, with a thin black eyeliner. This look is office wearable, though too much pearly shine isn’t flattering for hooded lids.
Bobbi Brown stick in "Shadow" is dry and patchy for my taste.
Perky Paint Pot is a coral peachy pink with a pearly shine, easy to blend with good color payoff. The shade lasts long with no flaking, unlike Chanel Illusion D’Ombre mousse shadows, which fade and crease.
Combined with Tom Ford In The Pink, it creates a bright and long-lasting look.
I love paint pots for their ease of application and long wear. For dark shades, I apply close to the top lashes and blend upward. Brushes like Make Up For Ever’s round ones work well for this texture.
I still need better swatch pictures, but you can check other bloggers like Temptalia for comparisons of Perky and Tailor Grey.
I’m happy with Perky, though Tailor Grey isn't a dupe for Ellis Faas. I'll avoid Ellis Faas until they improve their packaging. I’m currently obsessed with Tom Ford, so not using Ellis Faas pens isn't a big issue for me.
