So, where does the hydrogen come from? Currently, most hydrogen is produced through steam methane reforming, where methane gas is reacted with steam to produce hydrogen and carbon dioxide. However, there are also other methods of hydrogen production, such as electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power.

Hydrogen fuel cells have numerous advantages over traditional combustion engines. First and foremost, they produce zero emissions at the point of use, as the only byproducts are water vapor and heat. This makes them an excellent choice for vehicles, as they can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

Additionally, hydrogen fuel cells are highly efficient, with an energy conversion rate of up to 60%. This is significantly higher than traditional combustion engines, which typically have an efficiency of around 20-30%.
