What is hydroxypropyl starch phosphate?

Goto ruyuan to know more.

Hydroxypropyl starch phosphate is a modified sugar. To be more precise, it is a naturally obtained pre-dextrinised sugar and is gluten free. It is separated from the starch granules of maize and wheat by reacting with propylene and phosphoric acid. Thanks to its non-ionic properties, it has excellent compatibility with a wide range of ingredients, including salts. It is an off-white powder and flows very easily.

Uses and benefits:

Similar to the major starch formulations, hydroxypropyl starch phosphate also tends to dissolve in plain or cold water. This property is particularly useful where it provides immediate viscosity and can provide mellowness to a formulation. Sometimes certain ingredients can create a greasy feel in the formulation which is aesthetically unacceptable. In such cases, it helps to reduce greasiness and provides a conditioning afterfeel. When this starch phosphate is used in any formulation, it reduces processing time by simplifying the emulsification process. As previously mentioned, it is a free-flowing powder and can therefore be used in loose powders and cosmetics. It is used in all types of creams and lotions, foundations, make-up, shampoos and conditioners, liquid make-up, liquid talc, sunscreen products, antiperspirants and mascara.

HPS - Hydroxypropyl Starch Ether

HPS is a kind of ionic hydroxypropyl starch ether, which is produced by a series of chemical and physical reactions with starch as raw material. It is a kind of non-toxic, tasteless white or beige power, which can be dissolved in cold water to form transparent or translucent viscous liquid. It is effective in thickening, adhesion, dispersion, emulsification, suspension, adsorption, surface activity, water retention and so on.

ETON Hydroxypropyl starch ether is a kind of chemical modified starch mainly used as thickener and texturing agent for cement or gypsum based mortar products. Hydroxypropyl starch ether is used for construction.

ETON HPS is a cost-saving material and is easy to obtain the required thickening. In wet mortars, it offers non-sag, anti-slip properties, good work-ability and low stickiness.

Key properties

1. Rapid thickening ability is available.

2. It is with medium viscosity and high water retention.

3. With a small amount, a little increase can achieve high effect.

4. It can be used together with methyl cellulose ( MC ) and ( HPMC ) to reduce the amount of cellulose ether

5. It can improve the sagging resistance ability to prevent the (sliding) flowing of materials when coated or pasted.

6. Lubrication can improve the operating skills of the material to ensure more smooth operation.

Applications

Our HPS product has been applied in a variety of building materials, such as tile adhesives, cement/gypsum mortar, and various putty powders (e.g., cement-based, gypsum-based and gray calcium-based putty powder).

Our HPS product is an excellent thickener and water retention agent. With a small dosage, it can effectively increase the slip resistance, improve the workability, and extend the open time of the material.
