When it comes to plastic sheet sales and materials, you want to make sure youre getting high-quality products at a great price. But, whether youre buying for a large business or smaller DIY project, heres a strategy you may have overlooked: buying overstocks and closeouts. Overstock products can result from having too much inventory in stock, merchandise returns, an order being canceled, or an item is being discontinued. Closeouts are when a business is no longer carrying an item and or closing up shop and they sell the merchandise at a steep discount to recoup some of their money. What does that mean for you? Significant savings.
Heres why this special inventory can offer such great savings, and what to consider when shopping plastic sheet sales.
There are many advantages to buying overstocks and closeoutsespecially if you are buying in bulk for a larger business. The obvious one is the cost savings on premium products. Sourcing high-quality materials at a fraction of their original cost makes financial sense for any budget. You also save time by buying in bulk since you will already have the sheets on hand for future project. So, it pays to peruse plastic sheet sales even if you dont need the materials just yet.
How do you know a deal when you see one? First, know your prices. This way, when you come across a deal for plastic sheet sales youll be confident of the savings. Then ensure the products actually meet your needs. (A deal is not a deal if youll never use the products.) Is the material appropriate for the project or application you have in mind? Is there enough of the plastic to complete your project? If the product is being discontinued you should make there is enough for you to buy so you can complete your project. Are the products damaged in any way? A reputable seller would disclose such information.
You also want to partner with a reputable seller. This will allow a seamless process from purchase to delivery.
Often, a deal is only available as a bulk purchase. But, if thats not the case, ask the wholesaler you are purchasing from if there are further discounts if you buy a full skid or buy all quantity. You can also save even more money by purchasing bundles of multiple items.
Before adding to your cart, make sure you know the terms of the sale price. Overstock and special sales items can include:
Limited Inventory. Make sure the quantity offered is enough to complete your project. If budget is a top concern, you may not be able to buy additional plastic sheets at that price.
Time-sensitive offers. Buying overstocks and closeouts mean there will be no more inventory of the items (or inventory at that price) once they are gone. Youll need to act fast to grab the deal.
Salvaged/damaged items. Specials may include imperfect merchandise. Imperfections are usually visual flaws instead of structural flaws so that may not matter depending on use.
As-Is Merchandise. Even if there are no imperfections, you need to make sure the dimensions (size and thickness) of the sheets are applicable.
Non-returnable Terms. Read the fine print. Most closeout, overstock, and special deals are final sale and non-returnable.
If possible, inspect the merchandise before purchasing to make sure the plastic sheets are appropriate for your use. If its an online purchase, verify product details with the source before finalizing the plastic sheet sale.

If youre asking yourself, What kind of resin should I use?, let out a big sigh of relief. Because youre in the right place to get that question answered.
And I get why youre confused about what to buy. There are so many out there promising the life of pi in the sky. All the descriptions start sounding the same, and you dont want to make a mistake. Or worse waste your money buying the wrong stuff.
Hang with me. Im going off-topic for a moment, but I PROMISE by the end of this article, youll know what kind of resin to use.
Lets pretend youre on your way to the office party potluck dinner, and youve signed up to bring a cake. You head to your favorite grocery, grab the first cake you see, and run off to the party. Its only AFTER youve put it on the table and peoples eyes go wide that you see its a fruitcake.
Sorry, fruitcake lovers, but that stuff is gross.
And even worse, youre now the butt of the office party jokes, and your secret Santa gets you fruitcake gifts for eternity.
The SAME THING happens with resin.
So if you were to ask me, What kind of resin should I use? Ill reply with, What are you making?
Because you need to know WHAT youre making with resin BEFORE you buy it.
Just like that fruitcake, no one formula works for every situation. And anyone who tells you differently is a nickel-plated duck dollop.
Pro tip: If youre a beginner, I cannot stress here enough that you need to start with an epoxy resin. Why? Relatively speaking, epoxy is the easiest to work with. Its the most forgiving of beginner resin mistakes, plus its the easiest to mix and measure.
Once again, it depends on what you want your final project to look like. Heres the BIG THING to know the answer to when choosing a specific epoxy:
Are you filling a space or coating a surface?
If youre pouring it INTO something, like a mold or a space for a river table, you want a casting resin. These are low-viscosity resins that release bubbles easily that you can pour in thick layers. But because they mix watery, they will run off a surface, making fish eyes, so they arent suitable for countertops or artwork.
If youre pouring resin ONTO something to create a glossy surface, you want a doming resin. This kind of coating epoxy is high-viscosity, so it evenly levels after applying to a surface. While it can run over the sides when added to a flat surface (for example applying epoxy to a canvas print), it levels smoothly and gives a shiny finish. But, because its thick, its harder to remove bubbles. Thats why you dont want to use it with resin molds or epoxy table projects.
BONUS: If want to go down the resin rabbit hole on this stuff, Ive got even more good stuff for you explaining the types of epoxy.

Once youve got advanced skills, there are a couple of other formulas to try.
In that case, you will want to use a quick-curing polyurethane. These usually fully harden in under thirty minutes, so you can make a project and have it ready to use or wear in under an hour. Unfortunately though, this formula is very moisture sensitive. Any amount of water will make the resin bubble and cure looking like a sponge. Its also not a type I recommend for beginners since you only have 1 to 1 1/2 minutes to mix and pour it before it starts curing.
These resins cure hard and are generally cheaper than epoxy. But they STINK and dont have a long shelf life. If you want to try it, heres what else you should know before using polyester resin.
