Unsure if this post will reach everyone, but here is an update on changing black water lines. Wow, what an undertaking! This was by far the most challenging task I have ever faced on a boat. It wasn’t the waste that bothered me, it was the actual routing and connections. I bought the best available hose, which turned out to be a terrible decision. I have 15 feet left over for sale if anyone in Ontario is interested. The route from the tank to the head was incredibly indirect. I had to cut through the floor after tearing out the awful carpeting. Seriously, why carpet in a boat? That’s a whole other story. My wife and I, amidst a sea of curses, finally managed to route the line into the head. The original head was done for, so we purchased and installed a new one.

Connecting from the tank to the deck was another muscle-straining task. I had to lift part of the floor to expose the tank and bulkheads. The original line was crammed between the tank and stringer, kinked from the factory. I assume they squished the hose while bending it from the back of the tank to the front of the boat to the waste pump-out. The "best" hose I bought wouldn’t compress enough to fit. I ended up buying another 15 feet of a cheaper hose that could compress just enough to fit. This one didn’t kink. The cheaper hose attached to the tank fittings and the waste connection at the deck with less effort. The "best" hose on the other hand, required all the strength I could muster. I tried hot water, hot air, and expanders, but nothing worked. What finally did the trick was dry-fitting a duplicate fitting, pushing it a little at a time, letting it sit, and then forcing it to expand gradually. That wire winding inside the EPDM lining is incredibly strong. All finished. New head, new hoses, no smell. Everything looks and works great. I’ll be posting another question about this boat soon.
